Principles of installing civil electricity systems to ensure safety

01/07/2020

Understanding the basic principles of civil electrical construction to ensure safety during use is essential. The article will provide information about the principles of electric wiring in the house, the principle of grounding, contacting electrical equipment with practical criteria that are easy to understand, and apply.

Principles of installing electrical equipment in the home

To install electrical equipment or wiring in the house, it is essential to understand the following notes:

- When installing electric lines in the house, it is an absolute must not use bare conductors but is a must using conductors with good quality insulation.

- Select conductors that have been rigorously tested at the same time and choose the cross-section of the wire in accordance with the capacity used to avoid the risk of electric overload causing the fire.

- Indoor wiring is usually placed on porcelain clamps, ceramic pulleys, or threaded in protective tubes, which are usually made of plastic. The distance between two adjacent porcelain clamps or two adjacent porcelain pulleys should not be too large to ensure that the distance between conductors and architectural objects like walls, ceilings, and so on is not smaller than 10 mm.

- When connecting the electrical wires, make a staggering connection and wrap the insulating tape outside. To ensure the principle of wiring, conductors should be staggered and have insulation tape wrapped outside the joints, especially double wires.

- When concealing through the wall, the wire must be placed in the protective pipe to avoid rubbing the conductor. Make sure that the protective pipes are not affected by rainwater.

- Electrical equipment must be placed on wooden boards and plastic boards to increase the aesthetics and to avoid flaming during usage. The main equipment such as circuit breakers, fuses, power outlets must be shielded securely to prevent electrical accidents due to accidental contact or sparks released during operation.

- In humid places such as in bathrooms, kitchens, electrical sockets, electrical switches, must not be placed as well as electrical wires are pulled through these locations. However, if these are unavoided, they must be placed in a high position, away from the influence of the water.

- Replace damaged circuit breakers, sockets or switches, break buttons as soon as they are detected. Do not take advantage of or use temporary protective measures as they can be dangerous at any time.

Keep electrical outlets and electrical equipment at least 1.4 meters from the ground and out of reach of children.  Clearly define the dangers in the house and explain to children not to put their hands or fingers in the socket.

Principles of grounding and concealing of electric equipment

Earthing or grounding for the amplifier is to ensure safety for people and equipment in the event of unfortunate leakage or electrical problems. When unfortunate users touch the device, it will cause a light shock phenomenon, grounding the amplifier will help lead the current to the ground and eliminate the leakage current of the amplifier shell. There are a few rules for earthing and grounding that we should pay attention to:

- Grounding protection is to use electric wires to connect the metal cover of electrical equipment while without electricity with the grounding objects of iron and steel buried underground.

- Protective earthing is applied in a 3-phase network with neutral isolation, which makes the current when touching the shell caused by the broken insulation called 1 phase short-circuit, will be transmitted to the ground by conductors connecting device cover with grounding material. When touching such a case, the human body will be considered parallel to the ground with very small resistance, it will reduce the amount of current passing through the body therefore no longer being dangerous.

Hopefully, this information has helped to better understand the civil electricity system that not only helps ensure the safety of the family but also can be a useful source of information to share among friends, relatives, or the community.
